To be entered to win this gift basket, we ask you to post a tournament tip here.
Give us one tip for traveling to an away tournament! If you’re active in sports like we are, out-of-state tournaments can be fun but also stressful.
We’ll start.
Our coach’s amazing wife booked a reservation at a great Italian restaurant in Baltimore when we went down to the NEQ volleyball tournament. She found a restaurant that had a private room and we all sat at a big horse-shoe shaped table. We all knew ahead of time what night our team dinner was and all brought pretty dresses so we’d look nice. No worries about finding a restaurant once we got to town. No standing in line on a Saturday night waiting for some boring chain restaurant to seat thirty of us together.
Our tip: Research the area before you get to your tournament and book a reservation ahead of time. Call the hotel and ask for recommendations if you don’t know the area.
First four responses receive 2 rolls of pre-wrap free! We’ll also choose one random tip to receive this gift basket. Contest ends July 15th.
do something as a team together, not neccesarily something physical that makes u tired and weak, but go out to eat or have a slepover together. anything that bringss the team together actually improves how well you play, because you are focused and exited to do it.
I love pre wrap!
before my team goes to a torament we all do our hair the same way and we all use prewrap
before tournements eat a good breakfast fruits or anything good and light on your stomach, drink lots of water or gatorade so you are hydrated, than get warmed up strech and practice surves or/and bump to a partner. Anything that gets you motivated to play. Than go out there and kill it.
before a game we all strech and talk about amovie we watched or a funny joke we heard then we sing and play games on the bus ride.
always bring everythin u need if u think u r home ware one and bring the other. i always pack extra shin guards and cleats and socks if any1 4gets
my soccer team has a dinner before home games. one mom will cook a healthy meal one will bring drinks and one will bring stuf to eat on! my school colors are maroon and black..so we each gave me one dollar and i bought pre wrap. when we r home we ware black when we r away we ware maroon. and we all just take a piece and pass it on. and to far away games some of us will braid it
do yoga before bed its very relaxing just go on the web and find some begginer poses you will feel great at your games so you will have a better chance to win.
DONT FORGET TO STREACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a tournament tip i recommend is having pre-wrap with when ever where ever you never know when you may need it for something important like an injury or a hair crisis!!
i love pre-wrap i use it alot and for injuries and im really young my parents cant afford it so my friend gives me some of hers at are soccer games and it is a MUST HAVE acsssory for me! HURRAY FOR PRE-WRAP!!
Going to away tournaments on holidays seems like a terrible thing. Last halloween my team was stuck going out of state. Instead of getting down we made halloween fun bags. Each girl put something in the bag like candy or nail polish. Pre wrap in our team colors was also a hit. Along with that we found a haunted house nearby and made the best of the holiday. So if your ever away on a holiday don’t feel bad for yourself, make the best of it!
Congrats to Bonnie who is our basket winner. Thank you all for the fantastic tips. Remember, our drawing was random. Keep checking back – we will continue to have contests and giveaways.
lime green is awesome.
If i had Pre-Wrap i would get my team colors Red & Black! Then I could use it in volleyball and my hair wouldn’t get in my face. Thanks-Hailey
GO BLACKHAWKS!!!!
Have a parent put together a tournament book that contains all of the relevant info — game schedule, directions to the hotel, field, etc. Also, include addresses for retail, restaurants, and local attractions — movie theatres, bowling, museums and most importantly MALLS. Once you have a template, only those blanks have to be filled in. You will be amazed how much you come to appreciate it.
I absolutely love pre wrap i want lime greene sooooooo bad im going to get the package with all of them its soo worth it it will last you forever!!!
get enough sleep in the car ride then once your there with your whole team and everyone wants to hangout late at the hotel you can and you wont be the one falling asleep on the bed !!! and dont eat junk food at all!!!! only good food cuz the last thing you want is to be sick at your tournament in the middle of it!!
Don’t eat junk food in the car! Pick healthy carbs!
I always label everything with a number and bring a spread sheet with the names on it with their assigned nuber that way nothng ever gets lost.

Bring double pairs so if they get wet you have a change of uniform etc.
If I had pre-wrap I could use it for moving or packing to make sure everything fits in one to-go bag. I could use it for sandwiches or take bunches of grapes and strawberries. Could even use some pretty ribbon to tie the bunch together. The options are endless. When you have kids you think of anything you can do especially on limited budgets. You recycle and become very creative. I know my daughter would love the colors – I would love what we could create with them.

If you have two pairs of Knee pads and sneakers for volleyball bring them both because you never know if someone forgets. If you have the color of pre-wrap that your team color is I would recommend bringing that instead of bringing out the Hot Pink pre-wrap just because it is pretty. Sometimes you can get told to take it off and maybe you won’t have any hair things or any other pre-wrap colors, and your hair will fall in your face and you will loose a point because the ball came to you but you missed it.
When our Basketball team goes to out of state tounaments we always make sure we leave enough time to do some sight seeing it really calms us down to just walk around and shop we also dont eat fast food no matter what time we have, we alway sit at a restrant and eat.
Our basketball team was given directions to the hotel by a family that had stayed there on previous vacations. The directions were easy to follow and cut off some valuable time (short cut) through a busy town.
When I have soccer tournaments we will take a big cooler of ice so if you were very hot you could have ice. and it would keep your drinks cold too. a tip is to bring deodarent so you can feel fresh. prewrap is very helpful too, to keep your hair out of you eyes when you are about to scpre a goal. We also would bring portable fAns to keep us cool.
I use a large gym bag (not a sackpack) for my gear, so I always keep a garbage bag in it. That way, i can put my bag inside the gymbag in case it rains, keeping my stuff dry
This is my first year playing travel softball, and it is alot different from playing rec ball. I was in a slump when the season first started. I have girls on my team that have been playing for years and it was a little scary. I was sitting alot on the bench through a lot of our games and it was hard to understand. My mom suggested that I talk to the coach (who is amazing by the way) so I did and I just told him you are never going to know what I got if I cant play! So he gave me a chance and I definitely play a lot more! Still learning of course! MY TIP: NEVER GIVE UP! ALWAYS PLAY HARD IT PAYS OFF! BRING YOUR GAME EVERY TIME AND WHEN YOUR AT THE PLATE FOCUS YOU ARE FIERCE AND YOU CAN DO IT! WHEN YOU PLAY AT 110% YOU WILL WIN! KEEP PUSHING YOU GOT THIS!! GOOD LUCK IN YOUR JOURNEY OF COMPETITIVE SPORTS ITS SO WORTH IT!! ADRIANNA E.
Putting everything back in the bag clean is a great tip, especially at the end of a sports season. Nothing worse than trying to find a pair of shin guards or knee pads for the first game. Check out http://thehouseholdhelper.com/ for great tips on making your household run smoother. Cara is great!
Back when I was involved in sports, I kept a bag in my closet just for my traveling stuff. Whenever I came home from a cross country race or a cheering competition, I washed everything and put it all back into that bag. Then everything I needed was always packed.
PS: Wish I had pre-wrap then!!
when going to tournaments always try to take two of everything with you. like 2 pairs of shoes or 2 pairs of knee pads or shin guards that way if you have more then one game you can wear fresh ones and you’ll be less likly to completely forget something if you pack two!
okay so for our softball tournament we had reserved a hotel and we were all watching movies and having a good time til we looked out the window and saw this really big park so some of us decide to run over and play on it as we turn the corner we see water splashing in from all over. we all look to each other and all have the biggest smiles on our faces. we sprint over and get soaking wet. we had the time of our lives. once we got back we were telling the three that decided not to come and they didn’t have as much fun so we learned that it is very important to do stuff with everyone because you never know what you will find:)
i play volleyball and when i have a tournament i usually ride with friends to make the time pass bye. we bring movies to watch on a portable dvd player and we read magazines and just have a great time and forget about having to drive a long way to a tournament. we also bring snacks along to eat on the drive.
U Know, If U Put Pre-wrap on the bottom of ballet slippers, it gives you traction on the floor and helps you swirl around. It helps you spin 2!
We always keep a roll of pre-wrap in our team bag. Our latest use has been to tie up sleeves on hot days. You can easily take care of everyones sleeves and still have plenty left for hair.
on very hot summer days, my soccer team brings a cooler full of ice, and some water…. then we dampen the wash cloths and put them in the cooler so when we get subbed out of the game we can put it around our neck or on are face to help cool us off.
On my high school soccer team we went to a tournament in Virginia in the winter. We live in South Florida so it was a 13 hours drive! Bringing stuff to keep you busy in the car is so important! Some girls brought books, cards, video games, ipods, and one girl even brought Harry Potter on tape. Card games like Mofia and drug dealer are fun with a big group
Video cameras are always great to bring in the car too, they’re always fun! 13 hours was a long time but we were able to keep pretty busy.. we would have been really bored if it weren’t for all the stuff we brought.
Always gotta have plenty of Oreos in stock too
The key to every away game is be prepared!! Every time my soccer team travels we always take a head count for everything. A headcount for every player, the med kit, ice incase of any injuries and enough water for everyone to last the whole game.
Also for my cheerleading team our coach prints a checklist before every competition so no one will forget anything! Make sure everyone has what they need and you will be off to the races! Always remember keep your head up and never give up!
At my soccer tournaments i always bring my old jerseys and cleats. i also bring an extra pair of shin guards. I do it because if someone on my team forgets or loses theirs then they wouldent have to by a new one. This has never happened though but you should always be prepared!
To have a happy and less stressful tournament, have someone from your team bring a tent. Also keep hydrated by drinking lots of water. Also, make sure you get a good night’s sleep the night before. Make sure you have no fly-away strands of hair in your face, it gets distracting. To prevent this, use pre-wrap. Make sure you get rest in between games if you have breaks.
When there isn’t a lot of time between games, everyone on our team brings something to eat to share with the team. We find a spot, create our spread and have a potluck. This avoids leaving the field when you don’t know where to eat and provides time to get to know the team families.
We also bring frozen grapes and a large spray bottle (home & garden dept.) filled with ice water to keep the team cool and hydrated on really hot days of tournament play.
Don’t forget to grab your sports gear we went to washington d.c for a tournament and i forgot my glove and bat
It is always very helpful to bring a small cooler that is light enough to carry around but can still hold 1 or more water bottles.
Put your water/gatorade/propel e.t.c and a wet waschcloth at te bottom of your cooler. Next completley fill your cooler with ice.
Now during your games you will be able to keep your drink cold and cool yourself down by placing the freezing cold washcloth on the back of your neck, on your wrists, on your forehead or just lay it on your neck
Every time I go to lacrosse tournaments or even just regular games (at neutral sites) I ALWAYS bring both my jerseys. You never know when your team is designated the “Home” or “Away” team and it would be a real bummer not being able to play if you didn’t have the correct colored jersey.
And snacks are great for all day tournaments!!
Also try bringing some things to play with like a deck of cards. There’s usually a lot of down time in between games and at the hotel. I remember one trip where we played charades in a conference room before it was lights out, that was fun.
For every single one of our soccer tournaments, as well as volleyball and basketball, my team always had a good song. A song that everybody enjoyed, something that everybody could just dance to. Before listening to that song, we would run for five minutes. It got us awake, and we all enjoyed it. While we ran we would sing a little kids song, such as row row row your boat. It made us all feel good. Then, after running, our coach would turn the song on as loud as we could and we would all dance around and get all hyped. The other team would see us being a team and having fun, and almost always they were intimidated. We got out onto the court/field, and we all played great.
hope this helps.
bring big coolers with lots of ice and waterbottles, that way, if a member of your team doesnt have enough water, or gets too hot, there is plenty of refreshing drinks to go around. Also, as soon as you know the location of the tournament, book your hotel rooms, and request the rooms to be close to eachother. That way, you can have fun with your team in the hotel rooms, and the parents don’t have to worry about supervision because everyone is so close to eachother. Finally, bring a group activity to do between games. This will help the team bond, and keep them close during breaks.
At our tournaments we have a sign up list for people to bring different foods. We always bring extras for the parents and fans too.
Everyone brings both of our jerseys and extra socks, hair stuff, ect.
There are three competitive gymnasts in our family so we go to a lot of away meets. I have a checklist on the computer and each girl gets one a few days before the trip so she can start to gather the essentials. Then all I have to do is go over the list and poof! all the girls are ready for the trip, complete with swimming suits for hotel pools!
Tips
1. when flying try to fly with whole team that way sometimes you can get group rates
2.For each room at hotel let girls have 1 key and have the chaperones keep a spare
3. Keep cell away from room key it will mess up the key
4. Plan for a extra “fun” day after compotition then take team to a local amusement park or whatever
the girls will enjoy the fun day and bond as a team
With an all-day tournament, it’s important to rest between games. Once a team tent is set up, the girls can lay under it and I bring an activity. I like buckets of nail polish and dollar store flip-flops to decorate. The girls can take off their cleats and paint their toes. They have to be still for them to dry. While they’re waiting, they can tie different colors of pre-wrap or team colored pre-wrap around the fronts to make them “specialized.”
Making pre-wrap braids also keeps them busy and resting.
WE LOVE PRE-WRAP! Thanks!
As most of us know, the price of food and drinks can put a real dent in your wallet. Make sure and pack up snacks and drinks, not just for the tournament but in the hotel rooms. Don’t forget snacks with protien too.
