Rules Regarding Pre-Wrap as Headbands
-According to the National Association of State High School Associations (NFSH) Basketball – by Megan Fenton (copyright Pre-wrap.com)

• A headband is anything that goes around the whole head – not just around the hair (for example a ponytail holder/elastic/scrunchie)
•Pre-wrap is considered a headband, along with elastic strips/bands, or terry cloth sweat bands
• The pre-wrap color must be white, black, beige, or the main color of the jersey
• All team members are required to wear the same colors also – for example one team member is not allowed to wear black if the other is wearing the primary team color, or white or beige
• Headbands must be worn around the forehead or crown of the head
• Headbands must be made of a non-abrasive material – like pre-wrap
• If the athlete is wearing one color of pre-wrap, or other type of headband, their wrist or arm bands must also be the same color
• Items that are not matching or do not follow these rules must be removed before competition

The highest occurrence of injuries were to the ankle, over 30% in basketball, soccer, and volleyball. What measures can you take to protect the ankle? In addition to preventative strengthening exercises, the ankle can be protected with either a functional brace or athletic tape to add additional support. There is a significant debate over whether ankle taping or bracing is more effective. Both have advantages and drawbacks.

Taping is a common practice in almost all colleges today, and in high school when necessary. Many studies have been done to show the effectiveness of ankle taping. In the studies where ankle taping was deemed to enhance ankle protection, the tape was applied in a pattern to combat a specific motion. If you decided to use ankle taping for support, you must also take into consideration the experience and knowledge of the person applying the tape and the quality of the tape itself. No matter how good the tape job is, athletic tape will begin to lose support as the ankle is moved throughout a practice or competition. Perspiration can also decrease the effectiveness of the tape job, which is why it is important to start with a strong tape job.

In general people tend to believe that because of the more rigid materials that ankle braces are made out of, that they are therefore more effective than tape. However they can lose support with activity just like ankle taping, and the strength of good athletic tape should not be underestimated. Ankle braces have been found to be not as effective as freshly applied tape. Nevertheless, it is more realistic to tighten or readjust a brace than re-tape an ankle during a practice or game.

Cost can also be an important factor to take into account when deciding between the two. You will need to purchase athletic tape plus the cost of pre-wrap, adhesive spray, heel and lace pads, and the need for a certified athletic trainer to apply the tape job. An ankle brace can cost anywhere from $20 to $60. Overall, it is really a matter of preference. Braces can be self applied and readjusted, and are most cost effective. Taping can be applied in specific patterns to prevent movement in certain directions, and is easily changed for personal comfort. Some type of support is definitely warranted; taping and bracing both have their positives and negatives.

Our newest pre-wrap gift basket contains 9 rolls of our most popular colors. Looking for a birthday present for a friend? This new gift basket is the perfect size. For just $22.99, you can have this adorable basket shipped free! Click here to order this pre-wrap gift basket.

To be entered to win this gift basket, we ask you to post a tournament tip here.

Give us one tip for traveling to an away tournament! If you’re active in sports like we are, out-of-state tournaments can be fun but also stressful.

We’ll start.

Our coach’s amazing wife booked a reservation at a great Italian restaurant in Baltimore when we went down to the NEQ volleyball tournament. She found a restaurant that had a private room and we all sat at a big horse-shoe shaped table. We all knew ahead of time what night our team dinner was and all brought pretty dresses so we’d look nice. No worries about finding a restaurant once we got to town. No standing in line on a Saturday night waiting for some boring chain restaurant to seat thirty of us together.

Our tip: Research the area before you get to your tournament and book a reservation ahead of time. Call the hotel and ask for recommendations if you don’t know the area.

First four responses receive 2 rolls of pre-wrap free! We’ll also choose one random tip to receive this gift basket. Contest ends July 15th.

They use pieces of pre-wrap to make a temporary bar when they are learning new skills – if they hit their feet on pre-wrap it just doesn’t hurt! They make finish lines from it, visual markers for the girls to leap over, jump over, tumble over, etc.

And some girls do wear it in their hair, too.

just got a really nice note from Victor over at Capital Ice. Since we’re not skaters, he kindly explained how they use our pre-wrap.

“For the ankle area which also needs protection against the hard boots (without the pads, I get blisters), the sleeves do not work very well; after skating hard for an hour, the pads will slip out of the sleeve. So I use the prewrap and the athletic tape instead. And it works very well. I’ve been using it for a year or so.

First I use the prewrap around my ankle, put the pads on it, then use more
prewrap around it. To hold everything tight, I use the athletic tape.”

He also told us how much he likes the story of how our business started and all of the colors that we have.

His comments touched us and just reinforces how much we love our customers. Thanks for all of the wonderful feedback. We really do love to hear what you have to say!
